GF, another Kathy, this is in response to your request for pictures, updates on our 2013 land travels.

I have been reluctant to post any land videos here as L.C.T. primarily involves cruising but your request is my command ; > ) However, I'll still be select in what I post as home videos are not everyone's cup of tea.

Anyway, here's the first of various videos involving Florida while visiting with family who live in Miami. This one is of Key West . (Unfortunately several scenes are duplicated but I have been so intent on learning a new software package, I kind of lost track of the basic discipline of videoing: editing, editing and re-editing.)

Key West - newly added URL

Cheers! Ray
(Changed post to hopefully correct a problem)

Sorry, Ray. I've tried 3 times to get it to play; no luck. Maybe I need to update something on computer? If someone else has been successful, please let us know.

Thanks for thinking of me. I so enjoyed your pix of Biltmore House and your reaction; I grew up up in Miami and haven't been back since '94 and only time in Key West was in 50s!!

This seems to be working. Does it work for anyone else?

Key West - New URL

If you run you cursor over the video while it is running, you will note a box on lower right corner and if you click on that, video will show on full screen.

Cheers! Ray

Greetings Davefr, Kathy & Cindy:

Well I know now that at least 3 of you were able to view the video and I appreciate your reply as I am in contact with the good people at Smugmug. The problem appears to effect just a few and I have seen in the past where this type of problem corrects itself after several days. We'll see.

Kathy: Except for the one person in question, it was quite a nice friendly normal crowd and the sunset was beautiful. We enjoyed just strolling around. The Wounded Warriors were to be in town the next day for a large event and would have liked to have been there for that. I talked with some police officers who were looking forward to the privilege of escorting them into town.

Cindy: Cleveland's weather was just fine until last night. Low tonight of 7 with BLOWING snow that I'll have to deal with shortly when I go out to snowplow the driveway. While in Florida it was in the 80's and just wonderfully sunny the entire time we were there.

Kathy: Next video to be posted will be South Beach.

Cheers! Ray

Ray, from what I hear, South Beach is dramatically different from my childhood in the 50s - looking forward to it.

Well, here's my view of South Beach. It's rather limited in scope but see what you think.

Wow Ray! Thanks SO much for my ocean fix! Haven't seen that blue water in a long time. I naively thought the Atlantic looked like that everywhere until we went to the Outer Banks in NC and saw that (not very attractive! - by comparison)

Enjoyed Key Biscayne and the local flora.

Some of those hotels at south beach are really old; it used to be populated with lots of "seniors" so I was very surprised to hear it had become such a swinging place several years ago.

Where do the cousins live?

Thanks - look forward to more of your adventures!

Thanks Ray, an interesting place, for sure, after my time there.

It triggered a memory for me; when I moved from Miami to Atlanta in 1965, the trains in FL had not operated for several years, a strike, I think, so I had to "re-educate" myself about stopping at RR crossings , of which there were many here. After the inception of "rapid transit," not so many and can't remember the last time I stopped for one.

Last time on an American train was from Greensboro, NC back to ATL so the sons could experience train travel, sometime in the 70s I think. Not so great.

Subsequently, took a European tour with all in '85 which utilized part train travel and we did one in '92 in Britain and Switzerland, no comparison to US train travel! (nice)

Can't even imagine what AMTRAK is now.

Thanks again for sharing and hoping you're thawing a bit!

Nike/Everglades video

Glad to read that the videos bring back some fond memories for you and yes, we are thawing out a bit but another blast of cold air should be hitting us in about a day or two.

In the meantime, here's a video of our visiting a retired Nike Missile site and a tour of the Everglades. One more video is yet to come and that is of our visit to a Botanical Center and an Air Boat Ride on the Everglades.

Cheers! Ray

Wow, Ray!; y'all had a unique visit to So Fla for sure! During the Cuban missile crisis, I was away at college and I remember calling my mother whose memorable words were "you know where my important papers are," ( in a metal box at home, as if they would survive a nuclear blast!)

Familiar with Coral Gables, of course, but not Montgomery, after my time. Is Everglades airboat ride to come? Only time did that was when took both sons (ages 7 & almost 6) on a visit.

Thanks so much!

Yes indeed, the Boat Ride should be uploaded by tomorrow morning and that will be the last one covering our travels.

Glad you are enjoying Florida thru my lens. We certainly enjoyed our visit there and my cousin was incredibly hospitable and enthusiastic about getting us around to various sites.

Cheers! Ray

LOVE THE ENDING - HYSTERICAL!!

Sorry you didn't see alligators in the wild; that I do remember, but think our trip embarked somewhere near Ft. Lauderdale. Assuming from your venues, the cousins live south of Miami, so you were exposed to many fascinating things.

Prior to my departure from Miami, I was "the welfare lady," as I was called, with a caseload in Perrine and Goulds, south of Miami but north of Homestead. So my southern exposure was work-related. I know it's a whole different world now. Back then, it was agriculturally oriented; it's probably subdivisions now. At the age of 21, it was a real "eyeopener" for a city girl and an education as well.

Can't thank you enough for the videos, particularly my "blue water ocean fix!!" It's very difficult to explain to someone who didn't grow up with the ocean how it's really a part of you!

Best to you and Penny and hope you'll share your future travels with us!
