Our neighbors, whom we don't know well, just had a baby girl and have a son, just 2, so I'm assuming they have all the necessary and desirable items. They very kindly did us a big favor a few months ago, so would like to do something for them. Any thoughts about a gift or gift card other than Babies " Us?

hi kathy,
have you checked to see if they've signed up for a baby registry? that would help in deciding what they need. another suggestion would be to give them a lovely baby book (perhaps imprinted with the baby's name and date of birth), where they could note the baby's milestones, pix, etc. a baby book is a great way to maintain a life journal and look back over the years from the baby's birth, onward. a really nice remembrance/keepsake as she grows older.

Retired and loving it!

My "go to" baby gift is a Tiffany baby spoon. My sister got one when her 23 year old was a baby and always said it was her favorite gift. ----------------------- Helen

Birthday Plate from Pottery Barn. You can order on-line. Something they can use every birthday. The plate includes engraving with name and birth date. I'm getting one for my new nephew this Christmas

Here are a few ideas: 1) A family portrait - taken by a professional. Alternative, (presuming you are not a professional photographer), a framed photograph that captures the family. 2) A series of books - Walt Disney; Nursery Rhymes; etc. 3) One of the kits that allow parents to make foot prints and hand prints of a baby. The older child could paint the prints. 4) Mugs (coffee cups) with photographs of the children.

Thanks, all, for the great ideas! The announcement was when the pink balloon appeared on the mailbox a few days ago so I have no personal info. Didn't find them registered but will come up with something from your thoughts. The Tiffany spoon is way over the top as it wasn't THAT big a favor! Thanks again,
