Good for you Todd, hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Sorry we didn't meet up sooner on FUN2, didn't really get a chance to get acquainted.

Todd: Michael(my son) and I are on an AMA cruise in September from Budapest to Amsterdam - any hints or suggestions? It will be so different from Regent. Lee

Lee - Pat & I are booked on the AMA Amsterdam to Budapest in late September, 2012. When you return from your cruise this year, we will, with your kind permission, send off to you a zillion questions about the cruise.

With Todd & Mike's advice and yours, we will be well prepared for our AMA adventure in Europe.

And this coming December, after our AMA cruise from Siem Reap to Saigon on the Mekong River, Mary Ellen & Jim and Pat & I will be happy to be the go-to LCTers for info on that wonderful cruise in SE Asia.

Cheers, Fred

We are on AMA Prague to Budapest in June. I will try to report back after that.

Lee-

The rooms are so much smaller on AMA v Regent. So my advice - 1. Get a French Balcony - I think the most incredible thing is to open the sliding door when going through the locks and touching the lock walls! 2. Get out of the room! Spend time in the lounges - the Aft lounge is quite nice and not crowded. 3. Go on the tours - they are included and are quite good. 4. Order lots of wine at dinner! It's included :)

Lots of upcoming river cruises for BK people. Eager to hear the reports! Editing to say Todd has great advice. But in the winter, it's a bit confining onboard. Those top decks would be wonderful in spring, summer, and fall.

Todd: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer me.

1. We have a French balcony - would have preferred one of the new ships that have a full balcony but not yet available on AMA.

2. Will take your advice on this one.

3. The tours offered sound great - do they have any you have to pay for?

4. I'm allergic to alcohol - gives me hayfever - how cruel this world is!!! I'm sure Michael will make up for me though.

This may sound a stupid question but will September be 'warmish'? It's 'coolish' here.

Fred: What a shame you aren't on our tour - just love your sense of humour! It was great meeting you when you were here.

Olivia: Not sure how the reporting will go as we won't have free internet this time!

It can be nice in September in Europe or it can turn to Fall weather. They do have some additional tours (few) that you can take that there is a supplement.

Just dont eat the hamburgers on the AMAlyra

We had the disabled room on it last summer, and we could not get used to the idea of NOT using the door handle...Ya GOTTA use the pushbutton.

Food certainly looked beautiful; too bad it didnt taste that way.

We did Budapest to Amst

"Vireya": That doesn't sound too encouraging - can you elaborate? On a positive note, I do need to lose weight! Not too worried about the push button as I don't think we have a 'disabled' cabin. Lee

We have been on two AMA cruises and the food is not Regent but I enjoyed it.

My brother and SIL are going on AMA this summer Prague to Budapest. They are excited and know it won't be like Regent. I look forward to hearing how they like it... as I recommended AMA to them.

Lee, Brian's loss!!!

I think it would be so much more enjoyable in the summer, Beth! You have to remember, though, I was there in mid-December, and therefore we couldn't use that great big deck on the top, and the other "outside" places. I still enjoyed it, just not Regent.

Hmmm, Lee, not sure why internet free on one and not the others. I never did use it much anyway, it was difficult to use and spotty.

It's not Regent but it is quite nice - I would do it in a hearbeat again - oh but then again I am!

The food is quite good. The rooms are much smaller - but I knew that going in the first time. Set your expectations appropriately and you will not be dissappointed.

I've quite a few friends who have done this cruise but not with AMA (and none have cruised with Regent). Without exception, they loved it. I'm cruising with P&O (the bottom of the barrel) to celebrate my sister's 49th(!!) birthday next month, so if I surive that, I'm sure the river cruise will be fantastic. I realise nothing compares to Regent. Lee

Thanks Chatkat. Just can't afford Regent with the single supp, so thought we'd try this.

hi diane,

you and your sister will absolutely love tauck, whether you tour with them on land or river cruise. while we've not river cruised with them, i do have several friends who have. tauck is far and away the best river cruise experience. you made a super selection. first rate all the way. if ever you opt for land touring, tauck will not disappoint and will far exceed your expectations. you get to truly appreciate the landscape on a land tour. we were tremendously glad we chose to land tour through new zealand as opposed to cruising there. we honestly felt we got to see so much more. alan and i have toured with tauck twice and are now planning another land trip with them again for 2012. i hope you and your sister have a fantastic time.

Denise

Retired and loving it!

Todd, how did it go? Mike and I are considering a "Christmas Market" Riverboat cruise next year....I love December in Europe. And any excuse to be in Prague briefly..... Please give us your thoughts!

I know you didn't ask generally, but I'll give my 2 cents: If it's between Prague and Budapest like the escorted cruise (CASTLE) last September, I'd spend some extra time in each of the "end" cities (unless you've done them thoroughly already). We enjoyed both, though we didn't have very good weather in Budapest. We stayed at the interesting Buddha Bar hotel near Old Town in Prague and the Le Meridien in Budapest.

Margo-

If you are doing a similar itinerairy, Budapest a few nights before the cruise - there is lots to see and do there. Post cruise, the Nuremberg Old Town was quite nice - maybe a night there or Regensberg.

Charlene-

The Christmas Markets were amazing. The last AMA Cruise we went on was earlier November (2008) and the Christmas Markets were in the "assembly phase". This time we actually got to see them and it was beuatiful! AMA is a great River Cruise Line....can't go wrong.
