Most likely will do this and I will put you on the list of interested people and get you details when I have them.
This will be a new boat and all we know is the standard cabin will be 220 sq.ft. The ship is not even named yet. Do not anticipate any details until April or later.
Time frame for the trip will be the around the end of June to mid July, 2011 depending on the dates and itinerary offered.

Oh I thought it might have been for 2012...darn it all...we will just be getting back from ROAR.
Guess it's not ment to be for us this time.
Sure you wouldn't prefer summer 2012? Don't want you to get over tired now(hehehe).

I am sure if it is a good trip I will be very open to going back in 2012. I have that "time" in June and July and there is a demand for this right now so I think I will be doing this in 2011 for sure.
The first group can be the trailblazers for all you 2012 people!

I have put a web page together with the preliminary information about the new AMA ship on the Russian River. This includes dates and prices and my choices for dates are as follows probably in this order but I am very open on any of these three dates. 4-Jul-11 St. Petersburg to Moscow 23-Jun-11 Moscow - St. Petersburg 15-Jul-11 Moscow - St. Petersburg If I pick the date now and block a group we can get in as soon as bookings open and pick our prime cabins and also lock in the pricing. If this is a good cruise (which I anticipate it will be) then Ken and I are happy to do this again in 2012. We normally scout things out before taking a group anyway but there is no opportunity to do so in this case. So the 2011 group will be the trailblazers for the 2012 Russian River Group.

We want to do it. Most likely prices will be higher in 2012. I wonder what the weather is like that in June. We went the last week of Aug and 2 wks into Sept. The weather was perfect. In the 70's everyday. The museums may be less crowded in June than July. Something to think about. Thanks for doing this, Ngaire.

Ngaire, When do you think we can see what the cabins and deck plan looks like? Also, I have read that where the boats are docked a fair distance from Moscow, and travel time between the boat and city center takes alot of time in traffic. Do you know anything about this? I also read that in St. Pete's you are docked right there and no worries about travel time. I do think the weather will be very favorable in Aug.

I have not done this trip before so do not have the experience to know if the docking areas are a distance from Moscow. In St. Petersburg you will be right in the heart of the city on the river. Even the Navigator could park up river. Sending in waitlists now hoping for best cabins only one Mariinsky suite (seems to be the most popular choice) left on deck two now. Sounds like 2012 is the more popular time! Might work better for us since we have to get time off work. We are taking the month of October 2010 for our Oceania cruise. Don't know if we can get time off in 2011 that soon after our 2010 vacation. They may not let us off only 8 months later. Working, UGH!

I love this thread. My friends think I am crazy that I have booked a cruise for June, 2011....and here we are with a great group for the summer of 2012!!!!!!

We are thinking of 2012. We will be closer to or actually retired by then. It is very difficult to schedule trips around our work schedule. But, definitely want to go!
