I went into the Compass Rose tonight and saw alotta legs - of the Alaskan King Crab variety. I did not see them on the menu and was informed you had to order them 24 hours in advance. Now, no one has ever suggested to me to order anything in advance, so how would i have ever known????? (100+ rssc cruise days gets you NOTHING!)

I was totally crushed i could not get crab legs! even more shocked that RSSC Mariner does not offer them as a menu item! I know HAL had them on my Caribbean cruise in Januray, no special order required.

so fellow cruisers, i want all ya'll to be informed! Order Alaskan King Legs early and often!

Happy travels! ~ Splish

p.s. i'm still on for 8/09-16/2006, and think i have this internet thing figured out now, so if any of you Mushers have a question....let 'em roll. my best excursion was the Sea Otter Wildlife cruise in Sitka.

Splish, you need to hang out more here at LCT. You'll learn a lot of good tricks. I expect you to order crab legs every night on your return to Vancouver!

We were served snow crab legs on my Princess Alaskan cruise. Good, but not king crab. The Mariner better stock up!

We special ordered them for our last night in Alaska. You should have seen the looks we got as they brought 2 huge platters of crab legs to our table! We thought it was odd they weren't on the menu as well, but when we asked we were told only available by special order - and special they were! (Try the escargot for the appetizer...)If anyone is dining in Anchorage at the top of the Captain Cook their crab legs are also yummy! And split so they are less work.

Oh Sue - thanks for the heads up about the Top of the Capt. Cook! We'll be there the last night in Alaska! (She said dreaming about the melted butter with the crab legs)

Andi and Doug sent me an email - I made the reservation :mecry: . Masaki, I forgot you changed hotels.

We arrive at 8pm and I made the reservation for 8. That means we will have to make a quick change for dinner. We leave Denali at 12:15 and there is dining on board the train - but the quality, I am certain won't be quite the same as the Crow's Nest.

Andrea and Andi - does that work for you?

We special ordered the king crab legs on the Mariner, and they were okay. But the king crab legs we had at the Alaskan Lodge in Talkeetna were out of this world.

Andrea - I'm staying at another hotel called the Dimond. Rated highly on TripAdvisor. Looked pretty good and the breakfast the next morning looked lovely. And the bed looked really comfy. :)

It does look nice Masaki! We'll miss you, but I'm sure you and Amanda will need some alone time after all of the MUSH togetherness.

Andrea-
I thought about using the picture with our sunglasses on so we could hide easier.

Marcie-
We can probably come up with a whole list of other things they should provision before we get there (this could be a topic for a new thread!).

I vote for extra foie gras-I'll assume they will have enough liquor, even for this group.

The king crab legs at the Skagway Fish House (just outside the security fence) are excellent. If you prefer fish & chips, they use halibut and both items make a wonderful lunch.

So how does one go about ordering the king crab legs for a Mariner sailing? Hubby and I just booked the September 20th voyage from Whittier to Tokyo!

Andrea, you don't need to special order them before you board...just special order them the night before once you're on board.

TravelKat, I bet a crab dinner you're right!

Since this is no sales tax weekend in MA, I did go sunglasses shopping. I love Maui Jim's but ended up with a pair of Persols.

jbittle - thanks for the Skagway Fish house recommendation.

Actually, they are (were) Revos (RIP). So Andrea owes Kathy an Alaskan king crab special order on MUSH :)

I do like the look of Maui Jim's - maybe one of these days. I've got another pair of Revos that you'll see on MUSH.

Yum, Andrea! Thanks for the crab dinner! Masaki, it could have been a crab dinner at the Crow's Nest, you know....(lol). I have some Maui Jim's I'll have with me on MUSH. Costco has them for less than half of what I paid for my first pair in the Carribean.

Kathy, dearest - You know that we are enormously fond of you; but those asterisks are really weird. Can't Karen or John figure out a way to remove them?? They are computer and website wizards, are they not?? We are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see John's MUSH cabin signs.

You could add a space - make it Chat Kat. That might work.
