Diane, you know we will have a ball. Wish you were joining us!

Olivia, I just happened to run across that shuttle service a few weeks ago. Will let you know how it turns out.

Thanks, Beth! I am ALSO confident that a lot of you will be posting from aboard the ship and letting the rest of us go with you vicariously on this adventure (starting of course, with your pre-cruise lark)! I have done much the same itinerary before, and absolutely loved it in New Zealand and Australia. Why I booked KANGAROO as a replacement for the ill-fated TUT cruise. So I get to start where I left off before.

Olivia, I would love to cruise the KANGAROO itinerary sometime. I looks like some fascinating ports. Asia is one area I need to investigate more. Hopefully there is time for me to see them all!!

Once we are on the Navigator, I'll have time to post of our adventures pre-DINGO.

Actually, Beth, I think you are on the perfect cruise as an introduction to that part of the world. Only thing I was able to do on the reverse was get off in Dunedin and go to Queenstown for an over night with Regent. Expensive, but worth it. And since mine was in reverse, at Ngaire's insistence, did a Regent pre-cruise to the Coramandel Peninsula in New Zealand, and there were only 8 or so in our group, it was wonderful! You start at the opposite end, and have a great pre-cruise as well. Looking forward to hearing all about it!

Its a working port, so shuttles will take you to the Visitors Centre. Walk around for a while, then take a taxi , from outside the centre , on an hourly rate and visit the above.

Beth suggested I post a word of warning to all who haven't been to Australia before and David can confirm this but I'm sure it applies to New Zealand as well (even if arriving by ship).

If you intend bringing ANY food (don't even think of bringing plants etc) into the country (that means chocolates too), make sure you cross the box on the back of the form you are given. You will be asked what it is you are bringing in and if harmless, probably let through without a problem. If you do not declare anything, your suitcases will probably be put through an x-ray machine anyway and if anything is found, you could be liable for a fine of about $200 (apart from being embarrassed).

These rules are in place to keep the country free of a lot of 'nasties' we've been lucky enough to avoid. If you could see some of the things people try to bring in, you'd understand why they're so vigilant.

We're honestly not trying to keep you out!!!

Lee

Thanks, Lee. We have the same here in California. We don't want to have any more Mediterranean Fruit Flies that ruin our crops or to have poison sprayed from helicopters on our houses. I can think of some other pests we'd like not to have but that could be construed as politically incorrect.

Betty,Beth, and Lauri,
Did you pay for the shuttle using a credit card or by paypal? What day/time are you arriving into Sydney? Thanks for your help.

Cheron I tried using a credit card but since I have a Paypal account that I hadn't used in several years, it automatically sent me to that site.

Qantas grounds A380s after 'significant' engine failure. This is the aircraft several of us are taking from LA to Sydney. I hope this gets resolved within a week!

Wow, just saw a picture of the engine on the Airbus 380 that failed and it doesn't look good. I imagine, if necessary, Regent will rebook our flight.

I really hope Qantas gets this fixed soon. I was originally booked on the A380 but was switched to a 747 a few months ago. Still grounding all the A380s could really mess things up (especially for those leaving tomorrow!)

That and the USD is now worth less than the AUD! Yikes!

I went to the Quantas website and if you click the "major disruption" tab, it states "all passengers will be accomodated on alternate flights. Regular updates will be provided." May want to keep checking.

Singapore airlines has grounded their A380's as well. Lufthansa has not.
Since they were able to collect the debis from the ground, the investigation may go quicker.

I would think that for Los Angeles we have a lot of alternate flights.

One client who is also coming on Dingo called and I guess the Airbus 380 aircraft do not all have the same engine. Qantas has the Rolls Royce engines others have a GE engine. Probably the Rolls Royce engines will be grounded.

If you are on Regent air and are re-accommodated Regent will contact me and I will let you know. If you booked direct with Qantas then they should be contacted by Qantas.

I am sure they have plans being put in place now already to accommodate people.

I am set. Same time, same seat, same airline. Now it's a 747. And the packing continues.

Yay! The seats on the 747 are slightly different (they're flat but not completely horizontal) but I'm sure you'll have a great flight anyway. Have fun and see you soon!

Got most of my last minute jobs completed. Today: hair cut-check, legs waxed-check  , microderm abrasion-check, pedicure-check. Fred and Pat will love my toe polish color name... after hearing it, I had to get it. Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It!!!!

Kathy, do you remember the fun we had a few years ago coming up with OPI polish cruise names? This one fit to a tea! ;)

I have some schedules coming out now for close in flights so these will all be accommodated and I will be in touch as things are sent to me by Regent.

Joanna, Nicer to get it all done at home with prices more reasonable than on the ship!

The New York Times has an article in its travel section today on Extreme New Zealand . Some of the Dingbats were fortunate to visit Queenstown and saw and maybe participated with the crazies!!!! Enjoy reminiscing. Almost 2 months since we returned home. :mecry:
