OK, not an original name; but this escorted cruise will be almost seven years to the day since many (ok, a small group of us) sailed on VOF leaving from Venice.

This looks to be a wonderful cruise with great ports and great friends. So, who is considering this wonderful Athens to Venice itinerary?

We would love to do this trip, but with the economy the way it is right now, Frank won't even discuss cruises! We cancelled our Oceania for this year, only doing a family beach week in July. Depressing!!! However, I have to remind myself that there are many people out there much worse off. This one may jump to the top of our wish list for 2010, although we also love the AMA Prague to Budapest, so thats probably #2 and we couldn't do both. I think we are just going to have to wait it out for a few months and see how things go.

At least we have the pending birth of Laura's baby in March to keep us focused on the positive things in life! :)

I'm on for this one, it generated more excitment than the SS TA that asked for final payment a yr. in advance. Add a few LCT friends, our 'escorts' Ken & Ngaire and ports begging to be explored.I only wish it was this year instead cheer

If there is ANY way Greg and I can swing this one, we are in. That itinerary is one of the most interesting and exciting I've ever seen, and of course, we love the Voyager.

Fingers and toes crossed!!!

Marc:

Has it been 7 years? OMG!
So much time, so many travels & so many wonderful friends.

Sadly, I doubt that we will be able to make the time for this one. BUT!!! If we can, we will.

VOF was such an amazing beginning for so many things. We are just pleased that we could be a part of it.

So many places to go.So little time.

We are too - who else is on or thinking about it???? This is an itinerary we really like and want to do - we just need a little upward movement of the economy! We may deposit anyway and hope for the best.

Oh and I like that temporary name byt he way.

Suzie - just go to edit and then backspace it, was that from smiley.com? I'v had some issues with them lately too, but if I just backspace and then hit edit, then it just goes away.

How fun it would be to meet you - I think but am not 100% that Marc and Arlene are signed up as well, something at the bottom of Marc's signature made me think that.

Anywone else????? We will probably deposit this, I am just waiting a month or so, have to get thru the birth of Grandbaby #7 among other things.

Athens to Venice with two days in Israel, two days in Egypt, and stops in Crete and Cyprus. Oct 3 10; 14 nights.

Don't know if it will be better than Aus/NZ but it will be very different.

Too bad this seems to conflict with the Prague/Budapest River cruise, as they are so close together. Both are wonderful itineraries.

Agree Olivia, and we are torn for sure, as no way can we manage both. Prague-Budapest is much more economical, but Athens-Venice has the pyramids and sphinx, which we do want to see. Don't know yet what our decision will be.

We can do the River Cruise at any time from the end of June to early September. However it will still conflict as even a few months apart is still too close. Just have to make decisions about which suits you the best.

This does confirm that the date for the River cruise MUST be the September 10 sailing that will actually start in Prague on September 7th, 3 days in Prague, 7 days cruise and debark on September 17th. People can stay over in Budapest. This will give me just enough time to come home - put out fires and get back to Europe for the October 3 sailing.

In fact I requested that contract today.

Great idea Suzie!
Eugene, all I'm getting is a little box with a red x.
This is not only on our short list, right now its at the top of our list period, with the Prague-Budapest cruise running in second.
I think right now we will just get thru the birth of Grandbaby #7 the first of March and then have a long discussion and go from there.

Oct 10 Cairo (Port Said), Egypt 06:00 20:00
Oct 11 Alexandria (Cairo), Egypt 08:00 16:00
There seems to be a day missing here ?? When we did this itinerary on the Voyager we left Port Said and drove to Cairo (maybe 2+ hour drive) we did the pyramids in the afternoon and the museum that evening and the Sphinx the following morning then drove/rejoined the Voyager in Alexandria (closer than Cairo is) . I don't see how it's possible to see BOTH the sites in Cairo and the sites in Alexandria as each require a full day. I'm wondering if as it gets closer they may fine tune it to allow an overnight in Cairo plus a full day in Alexandria. ???

WOW Eugene!

Isn't it showing an overnight in Cairo? I thought I read it that way. Disembark in Cairo with an over night then on to the Pyramids the next day, then Giza and rejoin ship in Suez?

We're thinking about this one too.

Here's a link to the Cairo excursion

Doesn't look like there's any time to also see Alexandria if you do the overnight Cairo excursion.

Thanks Leslie. This overnight to Cairo is very similar to what we did (except we were fortunate enough to have an outdoor dinner on the grounds of the museum with string quartet music and light show) . IMO, they should arrange ports so that passengers don't have to chose either Cairo or Alexandria but can do both because they're both such historical cities.(even if it means eliminating a port before or after these)

Well if you look at the excursions for Alexandria, it looks like they also have an overnight excursion there, that would include Alexandria, The museum and the Pyramids and Sphinx, although the dates are wrong -- it is definitely a bit confusing. But I think you are right Marcie that if you take the excursion from Cairo, then you don't have an opportunity to see Alexandria.

Well as I said the dates are funny, like Oct 1, but hopefully it will get straightened out at some point.

The reason that it shows 1 October is that is when the Navigator overnights in Alexandria this year. The ship is scheduled to arrive in Alexandria at 1000 on the 1st and leaves at 1800 on the 2nd.

In 2010, the ship will arrive Port Said at 0600 on the 10th and leaves Alexandria at 1600 on the 11th.

One piece of poor planning on this cruise is that we will be in Israel on Friday and Saturday.

BTW, do not search for this cruise by looking at Med/European cruises; it won't show up.

Ah thanks for the explanation Marc - that certainly makes sense. Yes, I found out that it doesn't come up under Europe, one must put in the month and ship under "find a cruise' then it shows up.
