Hi Everyone!
Wanted to check in and let you know we will be with you on the 12th......we is Glenda and Dan, and our two adult daughters, Adrienne and Vanessa.

Adrienne and Vanessa are in Cabin 438
Mom and Dad are in Cabin 704

That could change, as A & V are waitlisted for a more admidships cabin. Also, as ours is a twin-bed cabin (not that we will be using them as twins!)the ship may need the twin bed cabin - as far as I can see, they are about sold out.....guess that sale did the trick!

Dan and I sailed on the Gauguin alone 6 years ago. Two years later I decided my older daughter needed a treat, so she and I went together that year. I am so excited about seeing Rangiroa and cruising the Tuomotos - I think it was very smart of Regent to begin adding these longer itineraries to some of the other island groups.

Hey, are any of you checking out private excursions? I sent an email to the Taaroa catamaran on Bora Bora - they have a 40' cat and the cruises (morning w/snorkling and a sunset)look great - and much less expensive than the one the ship is offering. They take a maximum of 10 pax - anyone else interested? If you go to www.boraboraexcursion.com you can read about it.
(Sorry - it doesn't want to be a live link.)

Happy to be cruising again, and to be associated with Brown & Keene!

Glenda, you wouldn't be the Glenda that used to go by LuxuryLady would you?

If not, then congrats on your first post smiles

You picked a good cruise to go on and you and I will meet up in Tahiti when our ship and your ship is in port together at the BK groups dinner!

You caught me Karen. Hey there......its been a long time. When Dan and I retired, the money tree ran out and we stopped cruising for awhile - BUT, this cruise with our girls is very special. No, no sudden windfall, and we are still retired, but we realized that we should celebrate our lives together once in awhile with something special like this. (The old Die Broke philosophy!)We used to have a timeshare at the Club Bali Hai in Moorea, and took the girls when they were growing up, so they have very fond memories of the beauty of Moorea and the South Seas. It will be wonderful to be back again.

Hi there Carol, my daughters are 39 and 37 - both single. They LOVE the South Pacific! The sailing trip on the catamaran in Bora Bora is problematic at this point. I have contacted the Taaroa captain of the 40' cat, and he told me the Gauguin has booked his boat for our stay there, and that we have to book through the ship. Not sure what that means, because his boat is NOT listed as a ship excursion, and of course the excursion price for any of these sailing trips is MUCH more than booking the boat independently. Since you have the link in my earlier post, why don't you email the captain and see what he says? With 4 of us to pay for, these excursions get quite expensive, and thats why I was hoping to book privately. I have emailed him twice now, and got that answer, so maybe if you tell him he has 7 people ready to go on one of his sails, he will be able to book privately.......

Bye for now......

Hello everyone. This seems to be a fast growing group. My husband and I will be joining as well for this sailing. We are Ruth and Alfred, though DH is more commonly know as Fred. This will be a 5oth birthday celebration for me. Fred asked where I would like to spend it, and I said I wanted to return to the islands. We are cabin 805, next to Arlene I do believe. This is the first time on Regent for us, as we were firm fixtures on the decks of the Windsurf. In actual fact my first cruise ever was on the Windsong, sailing from Tahiti. It was beautiful then, and I am sure that this trip will be awesome. Just wish I was a better swimmer, considering we live in Bermuda!!! Looking forward to meeting everyone!!

Ruth

Glenda,I'll try emailing the capitain and ask for a reservation for 7. I will research on other boards for another sail boat. There must be lots of boats available.I agree that the excursions are pricey.

How important is snorkling for your group? Any other requests or desires? I will get back to you asap!

Now I'm getting excited about the trip!!!

I found a couple of websites for chartering a sailboat and have sent off an email requesting information and whether or not they are available. I requested 12/17 or 12/18 on Bora Bora.

If there is anyone else interested, let me know since we could use more people for a full charter of 10.

Carol, snorkling is important to us - my girls are expert snorklers. For me, though, in my doddering years, I would like calm waters and snorkling from the beach rather than from a boat. The worst part of snorkling in deep water is getting back on the boat. Most don't have very long ladders, and its a real pain - not to mention embarrassing if you have zero arm strength......but whatever is available is fine with me. I don't have to go in the water, and the rest of us won't have a problem. I prefer a catamaran, just because the rocking motion of a true sailboat can be dangerous re motion sickness. As much as we love the water, we also get seasick pretty easily. Ginger and seabands for us.....let me know what you find out!

Hello Ruth! Look forward to meeting you and Fred. Long way to come from Bermuda.....I envy you your Windsong memories. We always wanted to sail in Tahiti when the Windsong was there, but - as I said in my earlier post - a sailboat is just not for us. I know the management says they hardly ever put the full sails up, but just didn't want to take a chance. How awful would it be to be on those beautiful ships, in the South Pacific, and seasick!!! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure you will enjoy this cruise as well. I speak as an old hand, having sailed the Paul Gauguin twice before!

Glenda,
I received a response from the same company you mentioned advising me that they have an opening on the 17th for a sail and on the 18th a sunset sail. I did not tell them we were on the cruise.
I have sent more questions to them about where and cost, etc. I also have left a message for another sail/catamaran company that has a Newport Beach branch.

Is there anything else you would like to do while on the cruise?

I, too, use the wrist bands and eat the ginger candy placed in the ship's restaurants. I also have taken the ginger pills found in the vitamin shops. Inspite of what some say about the PG, you do need something for the motion. I wasn't sure about the band until one evening on the PG I noticed that there were not too many people in the restaurant and realized that the bands were working!

You and Gil both prefer calm waters. I'll go snorkel anywhere.

BTW: Hello to Carol and Rodolfo and to Ruth and Alfred. Ruth, how wonderful to live in such a beautiful place.

As for the sunset sail on the 18th, that would be cutting it close with the ship leaving at 6:00 PM. Hopefully there's another boat available. If not is anyone interested in sharing the ship's tour for the sunset sail?

Arlene, remember we are in Bora Bora for two days, and overnight. Arrive at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday the 17, and leave at 6:00 on the 18th. Thats why I thought the 18th would be perfect for a morning snorkel sail, and the 17th would be good for a sunset cruise. We may be interested in the ship excursions, but usually they are much more expensive than chartering privately. With 4 of us, that is a concern!

Cruisedreamer: Wanted to let you know I have emialed a charter boat on Raiatea - http:\\www.raiatea.com/tane - a nice size cat that offers morning 3 hr snorkel cruises at approx. $60 each - that sounds good to me! Hope they write back soon. Its a minimum of 4 persons and a max. of 16. We are in Raiatea all day, so that would be a good excursion. I looked at the ship's offerings and none of them looked that intersting to me.......I'll let you know what I receive! cheer

We would be interested in going with you and you can count on 2 for sure and if Wendy, our adult daughter, gets her space on the cruise we will be 3 for sure. I am not tied to any island for sailing. We try to sail where ever we are. It's so relaxing and a great way to see the island and the surrounding water.

Hi Glenda and Arlene. Thanks for the welcome. We are really looking forward to the cruise. Due to the distance and time zone changes, we are stopping in Los Angeles instead of traveling right on through. It also gives us a chance to meet up with friends. Then we are travelling early to Tahiti prior to the cruise. I feel so out of place in that I was in the know with the Windstar line, and now I feel that I am a really green newbie! If anyone has tips, that they know will help, please forward. Is there a captain's reception? What is the dress attire for that? I really want to pack as little as possible. This being one of our shorter cruise itineraries, should help. Are there any must bring items? I also booked a lot of online excursions already, but it seems as if the experts do their own!! Are there any must do excursions? Thanks for all the replys!!!
cheer

Ruth, believe me the dress code is casual, casual, casual! My hubby may take a coat, but maybe not......honestly, with the weather so tropical and the emphasis on water sports, people want to wear as little as possible! If you have pareos from earlier trips, take them - they are suitable at all times, except you may want to wear pants or a skirt at dinner. As far as must bring items, it depends on how often you will be in the water - I'm thinking of bringing reef gloves, and for sure we are bringing reef shoes. Maybe an inflatable raft for the lagoons? I'm sure others will have some ideas..

Thr cruise is definitely casual. The men wear mostly polo or Hawaiian type shirts and Docker type pants. Ladies mostly wear sun dresses or pants in the evening. The rest of the day is completely casual-shorts, pareos, etc. The pool on the ship is quite small;it's really an adult wading pool. If you exercise, bring gym clothes.
Also, a cotton sweater or shawl is good for the evening since the A/c can be chilling at times. Also, if you like to walk the deck at night the sweater comes in handy-especially when the ship is sailing.

I got a response from the charter company called Island Sport Charters for their Tara Vana catamaran. The charges are as follows: half day charter is $1265 and full day is $1777. Their sunset cruise charge is $95 per person with a minimum group charge of $950. I think Southseas Sue found a better deal for $60.

Hey all of you Pearl people.....you are letting the lambies over take you big time in postings. Aren't you all excited? I'd be chatting up a storm in anticipation with you all if I was booked on this cruise. Just the thought of the two ships meeting up and all of the LCT gang getting together is so exciting. I'm so jealous!

Online dinner reservations have opened up for us Pearls. My excitement is growing everyday :app: . 22 days before we leave on the first leg of our trip. Canadagal is right about us being quiet. Maybe we are so excited due to the fact that this is our first Regent cruise.

Parislady, when are you arriving in Tahiti? We're flying in on the 10th on the 1 PM flight. We're spending a night in LA on the 9th.

What tours are everyone booked on? What about dinner plans?
