We’ve had the most glorious days here in the Mediterranean! It started with our surprise unscheduled afternoon stop in Katakolon, Greece for lunch on Wednesday followed by more wonderful days here in the Med. On Thursday we were in Taormina, Italy which is one of our favorite ports. The weather was just perfect, probably mid 70’s without a cloud in the sky.

Yesterday we were in Sorrento. Since Tom and I have spent quite a bit of time here before and seen the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Capri, Sorrento, Naples and Pompeii we took the hydrofoil to Ischia Island, a first for us. What a wonderful choice this was! This island is gorgeous, clean and so nice….not commercialized at all like Capri. In fact, it’s probably more like Capri was 30 or 40 years ago. We walked and walked and had the most delicious lunch.
We had some local wine with lunch from Ischia that was wonderful too.

As I type this, we’re just pulling into Livorno and I see the HAL Amsterdam, also on their world cruise.Today we’re planning to take the train into Florence with friends. It’s been about 9 years since we were in Florence (last WC we went into Pisa and Lucca). Tomorrow is the end of segment 5 in Monte Carlo and the beginning of our last and final segment. (Boo Hoo). The one thing we’re thrilled about is our wonderful friend, Paul Stavros is boarding for this last segment so we can hardly wait to see him.

Day after tomorrow will be another wonderful day. We’re in Barcelona and our dear friend Hans has rented a bus to take quite a few of us to see his apartment in Sitges, about 40 minutes outside of Barcelona. This is a beach resort town we’ve never seen before so we’re there to visit Hans’ apartment on the beach and have lunch.

BTW, Hans’s birthday party was a HUGE success. It was all done so well with the Murder Mystery party in LaVeranda. Everyone dressed from the 1920’s era and most of us were characters in the murder mystery plot. Capt. Dag, Jamie, Dana and Elda all made appearances at our party as well which really made Hans feel great. We all stayed in character through out the evening, trying to determine who the murderer was. It is so much fun! My character was “Kittie Cocktail”, the cocktail waitress at the Juice Joint where the murder took place. Kittie is quite a flirt with the men (even a bit of a floozy) though she has a steady squeeze who is a racketeer. Tom was the bartender “Gino Gin” We were all given play money to begin with as well and this money was used to bribe for information or use as “hush money”. In my case since I was a cocktail waitress and actually served drinks. The Regent bar staff wasn’t quite sure how I fit into helping them serve drinks but I did and got lots of “play” tip money. There were prizes for best costume, best performance and the person with the most money $ at the end of the evening. I won with the most money and got a “year of the golden pig” piggy bank. It was all such fun. It’s times like this that we’ll sure miss once this trip comes to an end. BUT I’M NOT GOING TO THINK OF THIS NOW…..instead we’re going to enjoy our remaining days. The weather is absolutely perfect here in the Mediterranean!

I’ve taken lots of photos which I’ll post soon but for now we’ll just continue to eat our way through Italy and enjoy!

Marcie, great reading on a Saturday morning. The mystery dinner birthday party must have been something. Keep having fun.

Marcie - your Mystery dinner sounds so fun, and I'm sure you were the hit of it.

Your adventures continue to keep us here at home amused, amazed and envious.

Look forward to more.

Marcie, Do you have any of the parts remaining from your Mystery Dinner? Perhaps you could leave it behind for us Tappers?

Sorry Andi, those type of games can only be used once as there are name tags, fake money, character discriptions etc. It was the first time Tom and I had ever participated in something like this...it was fun!

As for costumes, we had more than 1 month's notice about the party so there was plenty of time and ports to put together costumes.

Pat and Ray,
This was organized by a couple of passengers. The staff on the ship did a fantastic job with the decorations and food (and a gorgeous huge birthday cake) but ALL the parties we've had during the past 3 1/2 months have been organized by passengers.
