As I understand it, the 2013 SS itineraries will be out 15 Dec. This comes from folks aboard SS ships right now.

John, believe this is the 2013 Shadow itinerary you're interested in (Sept 2013, Vancouver to Tokyo: http://www.silversea.com/destinations/plan-voyage/?voyage=3328&year=2013 New 2013 itineraries out today as Doug mentioned above. Interesting pricing wrinkle, Veranda's on 2013 sailings on the Spirit, Whisper, Shadow priced according to their location (forward less expensive, as you go mid-ship more expensive) ala the SB pricing model.

Aloha and Mahalo Wes Yes, I saw the schedule this morning. But the cruise we were interested in is the May 6, 2013. So called Linda and booked. We will do our own air since we would have to fly to the mainland to use ships air. We prefer to fly west and cruise east ( no over night flights ). Again hope to see on a cruise soon. John

Hooah John, like you we were eager beavers too and booked Rome to Barcelona prior to the Spirit 16 day crossing (Barcelona to FLL). SS surprised us since our voyage is over 22 days, SS throws in a $1500 SBC, with our AMX-p SBC, and TA rebate can't tell Ida what we have in the SBC bank :)for this voyage. Now waiting to hear if our good friends Doug & Lynn Burns have booked. David (EnglishUSA) have u booked yet?

Wes, Great minds think alike or something like that !! Our per person per-day cost ended up just under $300 plus $500pp OBC plus the TA rebate. Think they are paying us to go !! Your trip sounds great also. Merry Christmas to you and your family. John & Christina

Wes, how are you getting 22 days? I see that cruise as 16, and feel like I'm missing something. Never mind, I guess you booked a B2B.

ps..John, sincere wishes for a wonderful & festive Holiday season for your family and Christina and you. (yes these per diems are wonderful, ours came in at about $305pp)

Just asked Ngaire to book us on the Aug 25 Explorer cruise that starts in Churchill. One of my husband's lifelong dreams has been to visit Baffin Island, but I had refused to go till now because I don't camp out. Now Explorer is going there.

Silver Seas is having a WORLD CRUISE in 2013. How nice it would be if Regent had one, too .
It is really missed.

I think it will be a great trip but the bears will probably not be around Churchill in August. They come into Churchill in the Fall to wait for the ice to freeze. Just thought I should mention that. The window in Churchill is pretty small to see the bears in Churchill about six weeks or so.

Really, Ngaire??!! Why is Silversea going there then? I got the distinct impression from reading the posts that there is no other reason to be in Churchill. That is a bummer. Guess I will re-think this trip. -------------- Helen

It is a fascinating place as it is so remote and the tundra is supposed to lovely in the summertime and lots of wildlife. They get a ton of tourists in the summer. That whole trip will be fascinating I wish I could do it. At least for me these far out places that really bring you back to nature are something pretty special. There may be polar bears in other areas the Artic Trip in August around Svalbard we saw 24 polar bears. It is just that Churchill is a crossing place and I would not expect to see many bears in Churchill. I hope I am wrong but that was my impression. I will look on the internet. Just did not want you to have unrealistic expectations and then be disappointed.

Well a quick look at the internet tells me the bears are still around not on the Tundra but on the coast line.
"Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the roughly 60,000 beluga whales that descend on the Hudson Bay each year. In fact, summer is when the wildlife action is hottest with polar bears leaving the pan ice that covers most of the Hudson Bay during the winter and finding places to hunt along the shore"
Another site stated:
"There are also opportunities to see polar bears in the non-winter months, with tours via boat visiting the coastal areas where polar bears can be found both on land and swimming in the sea"
So although it wont be the same as Diane's trip where you go out in the buggys on the tundra and get really close it appears polar bears are a possibility and it wont be so cold either.
I have done Polar Bears both ways - the tundra and on the Silver Explorer in the Arctic. Both are great they are just very different. If I were to take one of those trips again it would definitely be to the Arctic on a ship as there is so much more to see along with the bears. Antarctica and the Arctic are both wonderful destinations in my book.
This area is in my plans it just wont work for me in 2013 as I really have committed to a trip in the Med at that time and have quite a few that want to do that. I have a feeling this will be a great trip. I will get there eventually you can be the trailblazer. After all you beat the LCT'ers to Antarctica by one trip!

totally agree with Ngaire.
am craving this trip. One of my bucket lists. Lots of culture.
maybe 2014.
on the other hand, if anyone wants to go back to the bears (the 5 day land trip to Churchill) in Nov., 2013 or 2014, I'm in.
One day I want to be at the Arctic Circle.
Diane

Ok I feel better. It does look like a very unique trip and I will now go talk my husband back into it :ch: I do appreciate the heads up, Ngaire. At some point I would have seen the "season" for Churchill myself had a total melt-down of disappointment. Now I have different expectations. I appreciate that you saw that coming. ---------------- Helen

Helen, definitely talk your husband into it. The reason we are going actually doesn't even have to do with the bears. George really wants to go to Baffin island. Don't really know why, but he has talked about for as long as we had been married.

Silversea Guest Services announced another nice discount/benefit this week. If you book any b2b voyage in 2013 the discount you earn is now 10% vs. 5%. Thus, for the Nov 2013 Spirit Crossing (DougBurns/Doug & Lynn, David/EnglishUSA, Ida and I) are booked on, if you also book the previous segment (Rome to BCN) or follow-on segment (FLL to FLL) you will get a 10% discount. We are pleased with the discounts we get from SS on these two voyages; on board discount (5%), Venetian discount (5%) and now b2b (10%). Add these SS discounts with our TA discounts we're very happy campers...err mean happy SS cruisers.

Diane, You are so into the bears. We did have a wonderful time and a great group. I would love to travel with you and Marcie again. I was thinking of Antactica in Jan 2013. That sounds wonderful to me. Lynn
