Well, we're at 35 wks and counting on the pregnancy.

Our OB has told us that the baby could come at any time now and we'd be OK.

I've been pondering as to how to post pictures of the baby as soon as possible once the baby is born. The hospital will not be giving us Internet access or allow us to set up a webcam so that's out. And I don't know how soon I'll be coming back to the house so it may be too hard to post pictures from home as well

So, I've decided to start a blog.

Check out the link at: http://www.splashblog.com/marika

This will allow me to post pictures directly from my camera phone so you'll get close to real time photos once the baby is born. One oddity about this website, it organizes the pictures so that the first picture is the newest. So to view things chronologically, you'll need to click the last photo first and then hit the "previous" button to follow the photos.

Hope this works!

Masaki, this will be great for all the expectant "aunts, uncles, and grannys" here! Seems like just yesterday that we got the announcement on MINT!

Masaki,

Technology: ain't it great!! Camera phones are such a fun invention. I just got my first one last week. Thanks for finding a way to share this wonderful occasion with us. Let someone here know when you and Amanda leave for the hospital so we can keep glued for new pics.

Olivia - hope this works as planned - I'm hoping that my cell connection will be decent in the hospital so the blog updating goes OK. It really doesn't seem that long ago that we told the first people that we were pregnant ... on MINT when the news spilled! :)

Masaki:

I can only imagine how anxious both you and Amanda must be. Can't wait to see your beautiful Marika's photos.

Best wishes for a smooth and comfortable delivery...I know the "comfortable" part isn't easy, but hopefully it will be quick! All mothers know that it's the best pain you'll ever have.

This is great, Masaki. The next best thing to having a webcam in the delivery room.

We can't wait to see 'our' baby at last! Of course we must all remember that babies arrive when they are good and ready.

PS: I still can't believe that the event is almost here.

Masaki, to include in the entire 9 month video should be Amanda doing our Canapy excursion on MINT....she's was the BEST... IMO, even with child!!

Your baby daughter may prove to be very athletic if she takes after her Mom! (Not that her Daddy was too shabby either!)

My best man from our wedding called yesterday to let me know that his 2nd child was just born (a boy) ... he was telling us to hurry up as well!

Set up the playpen and the bassinet today - picture on the blog.

PS: now to tackle the crib. Tomorrow?

Hi Amanda and Masaki,

I was showing Mom (Jeanne) your blog. She says hi and hurry up and have the baby. Someone needs to have grandchildren and none of her kids are listening!

Um, Masaki, one of your comments is how terrified you are of the birth. Um, if I recall, you have a few letters after your name that qualify you to do this for other people. Is it your own that is terrifying? That comment could scare the you know what out of most people.

Masaki:

It is very honorable to see someone such as yourself so excited about fatherhood. I am the father of three daughters, and I would not trade that experience for anything. Now, my daughters are all in their 30's. One is the top pharmacuedical sales rep in the US and headed for management. One is already there, with an insurance company. And one is the planning Attorney in LaPlatta County (Durango) Colorado, and is being courted by oil companies (and Native American Tribes -- who actually have the BEST jobs) for her future. Being a dad is having pride just like this.

But it is also like this. Had I had no children, the Paul Gauguin would NOT have been sold to GCT. Instead, I would have bought her! Yeah, right, just written out the check! Children are THAT expensive.

But you know what? If I had to do it all over again, I think I'd do it all over again just as before! The warmth of "my kids" exceeds that of any cold steel ship. And knowing that I have helped raise three very successful people is better than owning any ship in the world. Besides, owning a ship means continuted expenditures of effort and money. With kids, it is not that way. Now, I get calls saying, "Dad, can I help you?" It gets no better than this.

Thanks,
Richard :) :) :)

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! 4 more weeks to go and we're doing pretty well. Marika already has enough clothes to rival us. She's already spoiled, with your help :) , and she hasn't even made her arrival yet!

Richard - it's heartwarming to read your comments. I'll just have to remember them when I'm waking up at 3 am to feed the kid. :)

All - it's ALWAYS different when it's your own. I've been in deliveries, I've delivered kids myself. But because I know what can happen during deliveries and seen some of the complications, that makes me even more nervous, if that makes any sense? Plus, I'm also terrified about the changes that this will bring to our lives - I can only assume that the changes will be for the better but it's hard to move out of the comfortable spot we've made for ourselves in our lives. Change is always difficult. :)

Yeah, guys, but just know this: kids are expensive little things. Oh, yeah, they are worth it, but so are Ferraris! But you've got to write the checks, either way.

Thanks,
Richard :) :) :)
