Greetings All!

I thought it would be fun to see what everyone is reading this Summer. So what's on your Kindle, Nook, iPad or on your nightstand in good old fashioned paper(gasp!)??

I'll start -

For fluff/fun I'm reading...

"Kings, Queens, Heroes & Fools" - The Wardstone Trilogy Book II by M.R. Mathias

I'm not particularly "self-helpy" but because it was written by a friend and colleague...

"Magnetic Abundance: Life without Excuses" by Ryan S. Taylor

Because I should have a long time ago...

"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Dr. Maya Angelou

I am liking them all so far (and yes, I generally read 2 or 3 books concurrently).

Great post, R! I finished the best book I have ever read last week.

[Linked Image]

New York Times best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies. Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end

Somewhat lagging behind the crowd, I have just finished the Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo and have the other 2 books in the trilogy waiting in the wings of my Kindle. Also getting into "The Help". Having just returned from my first ever trip to So Africa I was interested to re-read James Michener's The Covenant but it is not available as an ebook and I find myself reluctant to carry around a big 'ol heavy book.
Fun thread, Robert.

Helen I loved "The Help" read it last fall and left it in Singapore with my DIL to be who is from NC - she and I had fun discussing it - a southerner and a yankee from different generations bonding over the book -

Another fascinating book is "The Greater Journey, Americans in Paris" by David McCullough. It's the story of adventurous American artists, writers, doctors, architects, politicians and others of high aspirations who went to Paris between 1830 & 1900 to study under the French masters to improve their skills and bring the results back to our new country. It describes how they survived the siege of Paris, Napoleon III's takeover of government and many other travails. It's informative and spellbinding reading.

I just downloaded One Second After into my Nook, Karen! It seems sensational! Can't wait to get into it! I'm just finishing Dreams of Joy by Lisa See. Fantastic!! Unfortunately, unlike Robert, I can't read more than one at a time!

OMG...just finished One Second After. Yup, Karen, this was an incredible read...and an incredible concept. Holy cow.... If I sound like I'm stuttering, it's cause I am. Sorry, no book report tonight. Gotta go regroup, but would love to chat about this. OK...summer reading should be just mindless stuff. Not this book! Whew!!

I love long historical novels (ala James Michener). Just finished reading New York by Edward Rutherfurd. He's also written books about Ireland (The Princes of Ireland), England (Sarum and New Forest) and Russia (Russka). I'm also reading The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series (setting in Botswana) by Alexander McCall Smith--great fun reading.

Anything by Steve Berry. He takes a real event in History, and makes a page turning novel about it.
My 2 favorites of his "The Amber Room" and "The last Romanoffs". but all are good.
Lynn
I also like Daniel Silva very much
