Thanks everybody! Yes, I feel great! Went out yesterday and bought a couple pairs of shorts for THIS summer. I got them smaller on purpose so that I could wear them longer.

You know, you see yourself everyday and don't see the change so much, and then you go back an look at pictures and then see real progress. I think it does show in my face first. Our fitness instructor said that guys tend to lose it from the top down. Sure hope they were talking about just my weight! I can't afford to lose too much more upstairs! :D

I kind of blew it the past couple of days. Diana and I went away and I had wine both days. Shot both my carb allowance and went over on my calories, but I still managed to get in all my exercise. Still, I am not expecting great results on the scale this week. We'll see what happens come Monday.

Have a great weekend, y'all!

I went shopping yesterday too. Everything I brought into the dressing room was too big. Boy did that feel good! I ended up not buying anything except something to wear to a my friend's wedding, which I am shooting in a few weeks. Now that tax season is over, I will have time to clean out the closet and make a big donation to my favorite charity and make room for some new stuff too!

This is great Kathy! Congratulations!

I will be cleaning the closet out as well. Got lots of stuff to donate. It is a good feeling fitting into smaller clothes, but is still hard wanting to spend the money on clothes that I know will only fit me for a little while longer!

Keep up the good work!

Julie, I hope you and Chester have a fabulous cruise. We are anxious to hear all about it.

Thanks Don. I can't believe the car is picking us up to take us to airport in less than twenty four hours. I haven't started packing yet since I have tomorrow morning! It's just been so nice to have a day off work. I haven't had a day off for three weeks. This will be my longest cruise ever- 18 days- I'm either going to love it or think it's way too looooooooong. SAND was definitely too short though. I was just getting to know everyone when we had to disembark. Some close of ours are joining us on the Seabourn cruise so we are really looking forward to that.

You have the willpower of a Saint! Congratulations!

Thanks Wendy and Julie! I am trying really hard. I have such a long way to go, but I will get there and when I do, I am going to keep it off for good!

Well, this week however wasn't too good! I gained this week and I wasn't even on a cruise! LOL I am up three pounds. I still got in the same amount of exercise, but had two days with more carbs and more calories than I should have. Overall though, when I calculate everything, I should have actually lost a little over one pound. So, this is either water weight, meaning I need to watch my sodium intake, or with the slight increase of carbs came a slow down of fat burning (ketosis), and with the increase of protein, came an increase of muscle mass. Another possibility is an alergic reaction to the dairy products that I added back in last week.

Here is the plan. This week, in addition to limiting my sodium intake, I am dropping my calorie count back down to around an 1800 per day average. (Last week the average was 2179). I will continue at the 30 net carbs per day level as well as having my dairy products, however if I do not see a change this week, then I am dropping the carbs back down to 25 net and eliminating the dairy altogether, and see what happens.

BTW, while on the subject of dairy products, I found a Greek yogurt called Fage, that is out of this world, and I'm not a yogurt eater. This is probably going to sound like an advertisment, but this was the creamiest, richest yogurt that I have ever had. I bought it at Central Market (a local high end grocery store) and then again at Whole Foods. They have several types. The kind I got was a plain yogurt called Total. I mix in some fresh strawberries or blackberries and add packet of Splenda to sweeten it. I warn you though, it isn't cheap. An 8 oz container was $2.19 and a 500 mg container was $4.29. Sure hope I can continue to have it.

How did everybody else do this week?

Hey all, I went out on saturday for my sister's birthday to a place called the Beauty Bar for the "martinis and manicures". No way around it, really. I had to have a couple of 'tinis, so my scale did not move much. I am going to do the plateau days with just grapefruit, spinach and fish and see if I can get it moving again. You know Don I looked again at those pix of you and you just have to be so much healthier. Blood pressure, cholesterol must all be looking really good. Really, really good going!
Kathy, remember you have to re-fill those empty closet spaces. I will try to do better to keep up with you guys!

Thanks Olivia! BTW, y'all have a great time on TAP! I guess it is only a week away now. Right? Sure wish we were going with you!

Helen, I have to call the doctor tomorrow to get an appointment for my physical. Thanks for the reminder. I think he will be shocked. I know my BP has been 120/80 and my resting heart rate is at 55-60 BPM. My cholesterol and triglycerides should be way down as well.

Thank you, Don! I just visited my periodontist tday for a cleaning, and was told to visit www.chantix.com for anyone wanting to quit smoking! I may not need to lose weight, but if I quit smoking it would I'm sure bring so many health benefits, but perhaps a weight gain!

I'm looking forward to TAP as my introduction to retirement~

A funny thing happened at the gym today. The computerized Fitlinxx system went down (I guess it was the storm we had last night) and threw all the patrons into a tizzy. I had the place all to myself this morning. I guess nobody could workout withouth the computer telling them what to do. I asked the trainer, "can't you still use the machines manually and just log your workout in later?" "Of course", he said, then added, "most of the people just walked up to the kiosk, and when they saw that it was down, just turned around and left". I guess that was as good of an excuse as any not to workout! LOL It was really nice though not having to wait for any machine this morning. Just got through logging in all my stuff. Still in the #2 spot for weight lifted (I don't know how I'm going to catch that guy), but I'm still well in the lead in FitPoints and calories burned.

Any excuse is a good, excuse, huh?

I was at my friend's house this week and used her exercise machine, which is a cheap imitation of a eliptical (from an infomercial) - not electric and folds up to fit under a bed. Boy, did I hurt after overdoing it. That's my excuse this week. But at least I started moving more! And I liked that machine.

Sleep is usually at the top of the excuse list for me. However, I will say that Diana has been getting mad at me lately, because I have been dedicated to go and workout and am up early to make that happen and tend to make too much noise and I wake her up.

Well, the three pounds I gained are all gone and then a little more. I did get around to measuring and lost another 1/2" in the waist.

Yes, why is it when we travel we gain weight? GRRRR (well, like duh, how can we resist treating ourselves?)

My couple of travel pounds are almost gone - again. The good thing is the hop back on the wagon attitude is in check! So easy to forget the ultimate goals - like another size down and inches gone! Good job, Don!

Well I have finally gotten a good (?) no exercise excuse. I bent over to pick something up off the floor and twisted my back. Ouch! And that was Monday. Still hurts. But I did get through my 3 days of plateau diet and lost the requisite 2.5 pounds to go back to eating something besides white fish. Special K, here I come!

Helen, that's too bad. I went thru that some weeks back, and it's a drag. Just take it easy, and don't worry about exercising for a while.

Meanwhile, I've got marching orders from my doctor. Get more active, lose some weight and get my cholesterol down. It's not sky-high, but the old coronary heart disease is creeping up on me. Lots of family history, so as soon as my son moves out next month, it's going to be lots of chicken breasts and broccoli for me!

Wendy....that family history is a burden isn't it!

I'm finally recovered from my post cruise cold AND weight gain - today a new low - but only 1/2 lb below the weight I was the day I left on the Mariner (4 weeks ago today!) - I'm not complaining - I had some wonderful meals and I'm back on track. Life is for enjoying the things we love - in between I can make adjustments! Weight focus is always going to be an issue, but hopefully not the #1 issue!

Margo,

Well said! We still have to enjoy life! And food and travel are a big part of that for us.

Helen, all that sitting and desk work sure don't help that back pain. I too have experienced that - yikes, Take it easy and be gentle to yourself! Nice hot baths, massage and a good physical therapist are definitely in order.

I am just back from the doctor and all new blood test results. He was so happy with the numbers that I don't have to see him for quite a while and everything was not only normal but excellent! :app: :app: :app: I've been dodging a couple numbers that we were very unhappy about and the result was better than we hoped for! Fish-Chicken-Veggies and Lettuce are also to be thanked.

Wendy, I appreciate concerns about not so great family medical history. But we all know it can be done. At least we are fortunate enough to know what to do. Just one more hurdle to overcome.

Good for you Kathy on happy numbers.

Amen, Margo. Who wants to be skinny and stay home?!

Have a good weekend all.

Helen...my doctor has a wonderful saying when we discuss family history...."You may have those genes but you don't have to wear them!"

She's right to some extent, there are many things to be done that offset a bad gene pool and as my brother often points out "you gotta die of something!"

We have a good bit of philosophy along with our bad tickers!

Helen, sorry to hear about you hurting your back. What a pain! No pun intended. I have something going on with my left knee today, which caused me to have a pretty slow walk this morning as well. Mine however, I think is pain caused by those bed hogs that sleep next to me. I have one cat that sleeps next to my face on one side and the other one lays next to my legs on the other. Makes it hard to move and hard to stretch out the legs. Also, congratulations on breaking the plateau.

Wendy, you have had a run of things haven't you? Hopefully, when your son moves out, life will get back to normal for you.

Margo, sorry to hear that you came back with a cold, but glad to hear that you are better now. Also, congratulations to you as well and very well said about weight loss not being the main focus.

Kathy, congratulations on a good report. I am sure that your doctor was quite happy!

Weigh in is tomorrow for me and I am hopeful that the scale will be good to me. Also, tomorrow is the last day of the month, so on Tuesday I can check to see where I ended up for the month at the gym.

Uh oh, Don, that knee stuff hurts! Swimming is good exercise for people with knee and back pain.

As for the MD being happy with my numbers, I am happier than he is!

As for sleeping with your pets, there must be some kind of conspiracy. I have one dog who shares my pillow and one who sleeps on or curled up next to my knees. Fortunately my dogs are just a little bigger than cats. They move when you do so no getting away from it.

Unfortunately, when I try to push Figaro over with my feet to get some room, he just lays there like a lead slug and then if I persist he just gets mad and trys to bite my foot through the covers.

Kathy, great news, keep up the good work. I intend to be doing the same mantra soon!

As for the family history thing, it's so easy to ignore when you're younger, and female, isn't it? It just kind of catches up with you. My new doctor is about my son's age, and much more aggressive about these things than my old doctor. But that's a good thing. Now I just have to find the time to get on the old exercise machine!

HaHa. I also sleep with the dog, a yorkie mix. My sister stayed to dog sit while we were in Australia and she said several times she thought he was dead. 'Cuz he just doesn't move, at all, ever. If he's in the way, you have to pick him up and move him over!

No exercise over the weekend but my back is feeling much better today so back to the gym tomorrow for me.

Helen, I am glad to hear that your back is doing better. Take it easy though as you get back into a workout routine.

Weight swings are a curious thing. I lost all the weight that I had gained from the previous week, plus an additional 3.6 pounds last week!

Here are all my stats from April.

Hi everybody. Sorry I've been away. Works been absolutely nuts. We're moving to a new building which involves a data center move so I've been busy moving databases. Of course they all have to be moved in the middle of the night. And of course they still want our regular work during the day. Doesn't leave much time for LCT or sleep.

Don - That's outstanding! Your determination is definitely #1. Keep it up.

Helen - Glad your back is getting better. Take it easy. We don't want any relapses.

Kathy - Great news from the doctor. That's always good incentive.

I can relate to sleeping with animals, as our two boys, like to sleep on or between my legs. We have a symbiotic relationship now. I don't sleep well until one of them is there and they like to sleep up against my legs. I don't move around a lot so it works out good.

I've been back to being 100% good. My weight is stuck where it was a couple weeks ago. Not complaining - we've been eating out a bit too much and it just slows down and means that my goal is further away than I would like it to be. But not gaining is good too and slow is really the best way to ingrain a new lifestyle.

Thanks Dave. Glad you are back with us. Sorry to hear the long hours. Hopefully, that will be over soon.

Kathy, not gaining is great and slow loss is good for longer term effect. I know you will get there.

Right now, I'm supposed to slow mine down to be less than 2 lbs per week and really 1 is even better. Too bad, it just isn't consistant. One week up or little change, then the next week boom, huge loss. It almost seems like every other week for me lately. This week I am only down .8 lbs, but did lose 1/2" in my waist. So, even though I didn't drop a bunch of weight, I am losing inches.

Also, I signed up for a FitDay account yesterday. I usually journal all my food on My-Calorie-Counter.com but this one allows others to see what I am actually doing. Today I upped my net carb intake to 35 net carbs (53 carbs minus 18 dietary fiber), but am still trying to keep the calories between 1800 and 2000 per day. Oh, and I even get a glass of wine tonight. cheer

We had not seen our daughter since she got married the beginning of November. Diana picked her up at the airport just a couple of hours ago and I met them for lunch. I walked right up to them and it took Christy awhile to even recognize me. She could not get over how much weight that I have lost and how much thinner that I was, especially in my face. Now I'm really pumped up, so I just had to share!
