Every area has it's fairs and festivals. In Spring in my neck of the woods, we have Conejo Valley Days which raises money for local Charity based on some very old fashioned Western Themed things - like a Chili Cookoff and Whiskeroo Contest (Longest beards)along withe midway and typical rides. It's a huge multi-weekend series of events in April and May.

A Big Arts and Craft Fair is either this weekend or next weekend near Robert's house, raising funds for Rotary Clubs International and another similar one in Woodland Hills by our office is happening in two weeks. Money goes to eradicate Polio, on an international level but also to various local charities in need.

This weekend is also the Strawberry Festival - a major crop in Ventura County (We're going - will have to report in). There are rides, Arts and Crafts for purchase and all the food is Strawberry related. All the booths are run by various local charities to raise money.

What's going on in your neck of the woods?

We just returned from walking the NoHo Arts Festival. More spread out this year. Seemed like there were less vendors. Great people watching....

We had the Lyndhurst Art Festival...Penny and Ray came with us last fall. Dropped a few bob...Crab cakes (Doug says that they aren't as good as the Phillips cakes..of Olivia fame); cans and cans of chowda..lobsta, crab, clam..., some shoes, jewelry, a hand blown glass bowl for a wedding gift and a pillow for the hammock.

Next week is the fair at New Paltz, NY and the following two weeks, the crafts fair at Lincoln Center in NYC. Arlene and Gil, are you game for one of these weekends?

Andi - sounds really good and YUMMY! Robert, NoHo Arts Festival is a goodie too.

We backed out of the Strawberry Festival today. Too close to the beach with STORM Watch in effect. And it's COLD here today. So instead, we packed for WAVE while we had helicopters overhead all day. There was a new Bear sighting and it was in our yard. They did NOT catch it.

Did YOU see the bear? And you want us to move there? We only have deer, moles, geese, skunks, squirrels, rabbits and, this weekend, Doug saw a red fox in the yard. This is the first time in 21 years that we've heard of a fox in our neighborhood. Gosh, our places are becoming regular Sabi Sands!!

Andi,

That bear spent the day between our house and the shopping center where the Italian restaurant is. No, I did not see the bear - but - he was on the news on my street -which is one block long with 18 homes - they interviewed my neighbor.

In 2 weeks - June 1 - 4, is the Rittenhouse Art Fair at Rittenhouse Square in Philly! It is one of the finest Fine Art shows in the Country. Arlene will be one of the participants - her booth will be on S. 18th St (I think). If anyone can make it, please do stop by. She can give you for exact booth #.

And related to that - Today she learned that she was named one one Top 21 Artists Of the Year by American Artist Drawing Magazine!

Thank you Kathy and GF. I haven't even seen the magazine yet. One of the folks who frequent my drawing forum saw it.

At Rittenhouse, I'll be on 18th Street like Gil said in booth 111. If you're around there, definitely come say hello.

Arlene - will you be at the Ann Arbor Art Fairs in July? This year they run from the 19th - 22nd. Our daughter comes back here every year and we trudge through all of it with her. She makes many purchases and we make a few.

Thank you everyone. it was a juried competition I had entered back in September and forgotten about.

Kathy I won't be in Ann Arbor. I had been waitlisted for it a few years ago and got in 3 weeks before the show. Try finding a room that late...impossible. Plus I didn't have nearly enough inventory, so I turned them down.

This year we'll be in Alberquerque during that same time. The Colored Pencil Society of America Exhibition and convention is being held there.

Oh, I know what you mean Arlene in trying to find a room anywhere near Ann Arbor for the Art Fairs with just a three-week notice. If it weren't for the fact that our daughter is always in our guest room at that time I'd welcome you here. But congratulations for being accepted from the waitlist!

One of our favorite artists first showed in Ann Arbor 5 or 6 years ago. She sold out her entire inventory on the first day! The next year she brought three times as much and still sold out by about the third day. Since then she has managed to prepare and bring enough to last through the show. Her medium is machine embroidery on silk. It looks like watercolors from a distance, you have to get pretty close before you can determine the actual materials. She makes many smaller pictures now because she can make more of them and they still bring in a good revenue. We are fortunate to have one of the larger ones which she no longer makes and two medium size which I have on the wall on each side of the larger one. Our daughter also has some of Susan's larger original ones.

Her name is Susan Levi-Goerlich. "Stitched Impressions" is her business name. She lives in Cloumbia, MD. She has a law degree but since her art career took off she no longer practices law. We still visit her in her booth every year even though my husband & I are no longer buying (because our walls are full)!

Here is her website: http://www.susanlevi-goerlich.com/

Hi Kathy,
I've seen her work at some of the shows I've attended. Wonderful stuff. I can't for the life of me remember which ones I saw her at though, since I've done none that she has listed for this year.
