I was just reading a message on Cruise Critic from someone now on the Navigator cruise from San Francisco to New York. He reported that the Captain announced they would skip their first port (Cabo) because the Navigator had lost an engine and had to sail at a slower speed. Each suite received shipboard credit of $250. Has anyone heard anything about engine problems on Navigator?
Hopefully, the poster just misinterpreted what the Captain said.

My mother is onboard now so I hope to hear some reports. They had already dropped Puerto Vallarta and added overnight in NYC instead so they are really cutting down on Mexico.

WHOA! There are a bunch of us getting on in Montreal for CANADA, where the people posting that news, Bill and Mary Ann, will be getting off. I sure hope it doesn't cause us to miss any ports we've been counting on cruising down to Ft. Lauderdale, particularly Quebec, Charlottetown PEI, Bar Harbor, Gloucester, NY City, Charleston and Savannah. Charlottetown, Gloucester and Savannah are new (at least as ports) for us. Although we've been to all the others except Saguenay, we think most, all except perhaps Sydney and Halifax, are well worth the stop; we've been to those two enough so they wouldn't be such a great loss for us, but I’m not so sure about others on the trip – 80± B&K clients with Ngaire and Ken!
[size=8]Too Many To List - 416 days & counting on Radisson/Regent, and 150+ days on 8 other lines, with one cruise booked next month on the Mariner, Miami to Honolulu 22 days

Here's what a friend who's on the Navigator right now wrote me last night: We skipped Cabo due to engine problems and headed directly to Acapulco. Unfortunately, the TV speed was 18 knots (which is normal for the Navigator). Cabo was only an afternoon stop and from anchor. We got a $250 shipboard credit. I think something else caused the missed port, but that’s just me since we cruised by Cabo at roughly the time we were scheduled to be there. Go figure. We were supposed to get to Acapulco early (dockside 8am) but hit head winds (i.e., waves) and now will be late, but still in the original time.
Doesn't seem too critical right now. Jim

Jim, thanks, I was wondering as original post didn't make too much sense. Cabo wasa five hour stop. If they really had serious engine problems, they would be delayed longer than five hours over a five day period. Cruising speed is supposed to be 20 knots so they might actually have some form of problem; one that should affect us given how short between most of our ports.

Just heard from my mother on board; engine does need repair; maybe in Ft Lauderdale. Doesn't seem to be much urgency. She says ship is packed and she is having wonderful time.

Vireya, I wouldn't worry about March...what about the 100 of us booked on CANADA who board in less than 1 month... ??

AAAARGH! It's because the Rudi's have Navigator booked. We are such bad luck for Regent. Let's all keep the faith she'll be fine by CANADA.

Kristin, I think it must be the combination of you and us booking since we've both had the same "cancellation" experiences. But I have my fingers crossed.

Good new re the engine. The Captain announced that they would pickup the part needed to fix the engine in Puntarenas and the repair will take place in Cartagena. ( http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=30669413&postcount=22 ) Looks like we won't be impacted on CANADA
