There seem to be some new rules with gold points. I am trying to figure it all out but this is the nuts and bolts of it as I can tell. I may be wrong on a few details here.

If you redeem 50,000 gold points then you cannot go back later and redeem another 50,000 to make a 100,000.

After you redeem 100,000 points any additional points redeemed have to be in 100,000 increments.
Of course redeeming more than 100,000 points is not a good deal. 100,000 = $400 200,000 = $600

The points are now added directly to the person who has their name on the gold points card not split between both people in the cabin. They cannot be used for another person in the same cabin unless the card is a "household" account that has both peoples names on the card.

I still believe each person in a cabin can redeem 100,000 points for $400 each.

So now a married couple should have a "household account" to be sure of maximum value from their gold points or BOTH have a number. I have always preferred one number per couple because the points add up quicker. However, now it should be definitely be a household account to acheive maximum benefits.

This is how I am reading the materials I got today. I may have a few details wrong as it is hard to decipher. <img border="0" alt="[Hammer]" title="" src="graemlins/hammer.gif" />

Holy smokes, that was too much math for me! If I am understanding correctly, you can't use 50,000 points for $200 off anymore?

Sorry Karen it is hard to put into words but yes you can redeem 50,000 points for $200.

However, once a person has redeemed 50,000 points for $200 on a cruise that person cannot redeem an additional 50,000 to make up to the magic 100,000 for $400 redemption level.

You redeem 50,000 then that is all you can do for that particular person on that particular cruise.

I think I understand. You can do increments of 50,000 for $200 off but you can't claim the second 50,000 points as your 100,000 point goal.
Gee, I didn't even know that's how it worked before!

How late prior to the cruise can you redeem your points? Can you make the redemption AFTER you've paid your final deposit and get a credit?

That used to be allowable. I would need to check now as when one thing changes often many things change. You discover these changes as you try to do something and get a NO just like I discovered adding another 50,000 and being denied. Then I knew something was different.

Rewards Points Needed
$200=50,000
$400=100,000
$600=200,000
$800=300,000
$1,000=400,000
$5,000=2,400,000

This is interesting too. You don't get the same amount of credit for your points as the number of points go up. Seems to me that is what used to be called a "nifty". Instead of getting $1600 credit for 400,000points you "only"get $1000.

Any thought?

This has been this way for a long time, never redeem more than 100,000 per person at one time.

The apparent new rules are on the one time 50,000 redemption and that the fact the points can only go on the person whose name is on the card. All couples living at the same address need to call Gold Points and change to a household account.

1-800-508-9000 - option 9 to talk to an agent.

I spoke to someone at goldpoints today and was told that we can only get the 500 bonus for changing email address every 6 months.

Didn't it used to be every 3 months?

OK, I just got off the phone talking to Gold Points, I was told this is what I have to do in order to get a household account. I must first register to get a card in my name, Don already has one in his name. After I receive my new card, than I call Gold Points and at that time they will but both card numbers in a household account. If I was given the wrong info please let me know. The lady I spoke with was very nice but she had to ask her supervisor what to do and this was the information she came back with.

I'm confused. Our goldpoints card is in my name. If I have 100,000 points, can't I get a $400 credit for a cruise that's booked in both our names? confused

I just got off the phone with Goldpoints. We each have numbers. I gave both numbers and Goldpoints said we will have a household account effective tomorrow. We then can inquire under either number and the collective total balance will show.

Yes, Bonnie you can get $400 for the 100,000 in the name the card is in. BUT you cannot add any more gold points to the other persons name unless you have a household account.

For those that sail a lot this can make a difference. One cruise a year it is no big deal.

2 for 1 and What a Fare deals on the Diamond do not qualify for gold points accumulation.

Ngaire:

We have only one number. All points go on the one card. As we have never wanted to use more than 100K points at one time, do we need to do anything in the way of setting up a joint account?

thanks,

No not really. Just know that you always put them on the one person whose name is on the card.

We now have over 100,000 Gold Points. We'd like to use them on our next cruise. Do we have any restriction as to when in the process we need to have them applied? (We are already booked for the cruise.) If we apply them prior to the final payment date are they refundable if we need to cancel prior to our cancelation period beginning?

I used 100,000 goldpoints on a cruise that I had to cancel. They were applied with my deposit, but I am sure your travel agent can contact RSSC & have them applied to your final payment.
When I cancelled, I was refunded the points. However, it did take almost 1 month for them to reappear on my account.
So use them. As someone once told me, you never know when Goldpoints will change their policies or amounts needed for a certain $ amount.
Hope this helps.

I presented my card at the SUpermarket the other day, and the Checkout guy almost fell over. When they scan you card in, it shows how many points you have. Mine showed almost 200,000. He asked me how many families I was feeding to have so many points!

Kathy, you can apply gold points at any time you want to apply them. At this time you can apply them after final payment although they dont really like it then and that may change but at this point it can be done.
