After recommending two hotels on this board, over the years, IT IS I looking for a hotel, since my two have raised their rates sky high.
Maybe they became too popular !!
Anything from E$ 150 - 200 ?
Thanks.

Hi,

Take a look at Apsis Atrium Palace. I stayed there last summer and liked it. Booked online on their website and got a rate of 130 Euros( but it was considered low season , end of July).
Near the Plaza de Catalunya and Ramblas but not on top of it.

Good luck

We stayed at the H10 Hotel Raco del Pi, in the Bario Antico. Rates varied by night. Excellent location, excellent breakfast for extra euros. Rooms a bit "modern," but comfortable.

Neville, I see what you mean about the rates. Our favorite is Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel (#6 on Tripadvisor) and it is running at 230 Euro per night during your time period. I think that I found that on Travelocity.

Hotel Colon is great.
It is right next to the Cathedral, so nice to request a cathedral view room and is in a pretty square a quick walk to Las Ramblas.

Yes, the Colon is well situated. But at the moment, don't request a Cathedral view as it is completly covered in scaffolding. I have read complaints from people that request the "cathedral view" without knowing and are charged a premium for the room, eventhough the only thing you can see is the scaffold!

This is not your average recommendation. We have traveled through out Spain and live in Spanish Santa Fe, NM. In 11/04 we were booked to cross on the Voyager. We booked into Rialto El for the week before we were to sail. Exiting the Picasso Museum I was mugged in the street. At 1:30 all of Barcelona was headed to dinner (US lunch?). I was mugged, my camera bag was stolen($120. point and shoot, nothing else in it). I landed on my head, unconcious. Shopkeepers, passers by, ambulance incredibly helpful. Awoke in Hospital del Mar. Neurosurgeon in charge, wonderful care. Rialto treated my husband like family and me when I returned, an outpatient for 10 days (missed the ship). It is just off Las Ramblas, walking distance to everything. Three *s,small rooms but comfortable. Having spent our youth with backpaks roaming the world, we like small, local hotels. Luxury isolates. Starbucks down the st. for breakfast, coffee in Spain, awful. We'd go back to Bac in a minute, our favorite Sp. city. Regent booked for '07 and into '08. No matter where you stay, Via con Dios, Babs

Babs,

I remember well reading about your horrible experience and feeling terrible for you. Yes, these things can happen in other places but it is very disturbing that I hear it happening more and more in Barcelona as opposed to maybe Madrid, Rome or other big cities. I'm referring to violent muggins like yours, not just to being pickpocketed.
I am glad that the experience didn't prevent you from continuing to travel. Good for you!

We live in a town with many tourist visitors. From time to time we read of sad incidents. It happens. John Glenn sustained the worst injury of his life in his own bath tub. One can't get out of this world alive. Be careful but keep traveling. There are helping hands everywhere.

Yes, Babs -

I too remember reading about your experience in Spain. I am glad to hear you haven't stopped travelling and that you have a good outlook. You have a great attitude.

Santa Fe is a wonderful town to visit, (I will be there for the 3rd time in a few weeks for a photography workshop) but, like anywhere, you need to be aware of your surroundings which is hard to do at times when you are in unfamiliar surroundings.

Babs, I remember your terrifying ordeal, as well. So good to hear that something so frightening has not prevented you from moving forward and satisfying your thirst for and love of travel.

We will be in Barcelona in November and, as in any big city, will be cautious and mindful of our surrondings. I have no doubt that we will fully enjoy everything this fascinating city has to offer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us again. I hope you're doing well.

Thank you all ! Having stayed at a hotel who raised their prices, I tried again and told them how I had promoted them. So they gave me my old rate and i booked. Thank you all, again. Great board for help, isn't it ?

I feel foolish. I thought I saw Hotel Neris...I must have been reading another thread. Looked up the hotel and seems you got a very good rate for the quality.

After much research for a Barcelona hotel to stay after TAP for 4 days we found out the reason for the inflated prices. The Spannish Formula 1 Grand Prix is being held the day before we dock and there are 2 large conferences on as well! Many hotels are fully booked. We settled on the Avenida Palace hotel but they would not budge on the price! For those who have not yet booked my suggestion is to get in quick!

I have noticed increased availability...now I am wondering how much we are overpaying.

At the Majestic...deluxe room, breakfast, transfers from ship, transfers to airport, tax and gratuities...$455 per night. We are using Regent air.

Questions:
1-What are taxi charges from port to city?
2-What are taxi charges from city to airport/
3-Do we get hit with a diversion charge from Regent if we don't use their hotel ($100 pp)?

Some hotels are showing availability and appear to be more highly rated and cheaper, but may not be if we are hit with diversion and if transfers are high.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

This past summer we paid 30 Euros with a pre-arranged cab from Barcelona Taxi from airport to hotel in city center . Later we used a regular cab from/to the airport an it was around 25 euros (maybe a little less).
The port is very close to city center. I went years ago but can't remember what I paid but it couldn't be more than 15-20 Euros as it is closer than the airport.

I am not 100% sure , but I think I researched this once and if you fly other than disembarkation day and do not use their hotels you are cahrged the deviation fee.

Are you staying 2 nights or more? The Majestic shows 274 Euros per night, including breakfast and Tourist Bus pass or entrance to 6 museums if you book 2 or more nights.

Of course, The Majestic is not cheap , there are better priced hotels but might not be as nice.

Andi - the Regent price looks like the going rate at the Majestic. Remember, it is suppose to be one of Barcelona's finest. On their web site the cheapest double works out to 361.367 USD and that doesn't include breakfast, which the Regent price does. Nor of course both transfers.
The superior double converts to 400.667 USD and that will probably be the room you are given. This rate also does not include breakfast.
And the location in Barcelona seems to be one of the best.
And they have a cool webcam showing the front entrance on their web site. I love the way it loads. You can wave to all your LCT friends.

Maria and Betty, thanks. Yes, we are staying 2 nights. I will call to confirm I get this special. It includes a Privilege room accommodation.

FOr those of you staying at the Majestic....the IPREFER card is taken here and you get VIP treatment with it. It includes early checkin/out and room upgrade, if available. Also includes champagne and hors d'hoevres and free internet.

As I mentioned under the TAP thread, the Hotel Palace has a "great affordables" rate including breakfast for 240E per night, deluxe room. The Hotel gets mixed reviews (some great and some not so great). They are in the midst of renovations right now but also in a great location and slightly less money than the Majestic which also looks fantastic.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.
