Any ideas for a Hotel in Singapore? Barry and I are joining the big ship, Diamond Princess there, and will cruise all of December back home to Auckland, enjoying Christmas and New Year on board. Having a pre cruise stay in Singapore, but there is such a huge range of choice. Any one stayed at Raffles?
David.

We stayed at the Singapore Intercontinental Hotel and really liked it. It was conveniently located, attached underground to Bugis Junction Mall which has an amazing Singaporean-style food court as well as an MRT stop. It is within walking distance of Raffles. Debbie

We stayed at Raffles a few years ago and enjoyed the hotel. The grounds are beautiful, and the restaurants were great. The locaton was fine for us and we walked and liked the area.

I would second the comments regarding Raffles. Great rooms, service and food. The location is also very good for touring by foot. Don't forget to do the night safari at the zoo. Also try the Equinox restaurant atop the hotel across the street from Raffles- great views of Singapore.

We also stayed at the Intercontinental. It was a couple of blocks from Raffles and conveniently located. The service was excellent. We are members of their loyalty program (Ambassador) and we were upgraded to a suite. Their club level is great too. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived and they gave us a day room in which we were presented with a gift (6 placemats, chop sticks and holders) and conducted the registration privately in the room. They then offered us the Club for breakfast. Our suitcases were transferred for us when we were out.

We stayed at the Four Seasons and thoroughly enjoyed that. You can walk thru to Orchard Road and avoid some of that awful humidity. I second the recomendation for the Night Safari,we loved that. Also the Orchid Gardens were lovely. -------------------- Helen

Have a fabulous cruise David. I've stayed at the Swissotel and found it great. It adjoins Raffles via a shopping plaza but I think it would be cheaper than Raffles - don't know how much you need to consider your budget! Lee

I forget where we stayed, but it was one of the high rise hotels thru the Amex Platinum program, booked through them. We got upgraded to a wonderful room facing the water, with a whirlpool bath overlooking! All I remember is that it was attached to a mall, because I needed batteries, and it was the hottest place I have ever been.
Don't miss the Orchid Garden in the Botanical Gardens if you love flowers!

If you need something a little easier on the budget than Raffles, the Carlton next to Raffles would be worth a look. We stay there every year for a couple of days on our way to Europe. All we are looking for is a clean, comfortable room with good service if you need it, as we hardly spend anytime in it as there is always so much to do in Singapore. Love the shopping and eating. If you would like some suggestions please email me. Second the Orchard Gardens if you love orchids, which I do. We use the Metro to travel around as it's so clean and safe.

Many thanks for the replies. We have been to Singapore several times on cruises , and have done most of the tours. Even had an overnight there and just loved the night zoo. Only stayed in a Hotel there many years ago as part of a stopover package on the way to Britain. It was still in its Colonial era then. Seems from most replies the area to be in is around the Marina Bay area, so will look at Hotels around there. On our first trip to Singapore, I well recall joining a day tour at Raffles. At that stage they were just starting to build Raffles City, and the original Hotel was all boarded up with ply wood , and in a state of decay. Been checking some of the reviews of Raffles and burst out laughing when someone said it was OK, but everything was so old.

Have young friend in Singapore right now no idea where this hotel is located but she seems to love it: My hotel is fabulous! It's boutique-y and new and in a quaint part of town. Max's girlfriend (either May or Meg, I couldn't tell) said it's one of the oldest, most important parts of Singapore where all the trading took place. The furnishings and decor is my room is very chic but tasteful. The bed is a big fluffy dream of down feathers. Have a flat screen. Nice toiletries. Free wi-fi. I'm really glad I booked this spot! http://www.hotelnostalgia.com.sg/
